The Hon. Michael Egan has been Chancellor of Macquarie University since February 2008. He was Treasurer of New South Wales for a record term from 1995 to 2005. He was also Minister for State Development, Minister for Energy and Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council. He is currently Chairman of the Centenary Institute of Cancer Medicine and Cell Biology, Chairman of the Australia Day Council of New South Wales, a Governor of the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research and Chairman of Terria Pty Ltd.

With a background in accounting and finance, culminating as Managing Director of Merchant Bank CIBC Australia Limited, Malcolm Irving has been a non-executive director of listed and non-listed companies for a number of years. His current directorships include Abacus Property Group, Thales Australia Limited and CRI Funds Management Limited.
Malcolm was a Director of Caltex Australia Limited for twelve years including six years as Chairman; he continues to be a Consultant to Caltex Australia Limited. He was also a director of Telstra Corporation Limited and the Government-owned Australian Industry Development Corporation and Australian River Company Limited (formerly Australian National Lines).

Professor Julie Fitness

Professor Julie Fitness is a social-evolutionary psychologist with research interests in the features and functions of emotions in both personal relationship and organizational contexts. She joined the Psychology Department at Macquarie in 1991 with a PhD from Canterbury University, New Zealand. Since then she has published three co-edited books and over 60 scholarly papers and book chapters on emotion and relationship-related topics, including love, hate, betrayal, revenge, and forgiveness. She is particularly interested in the role of emotions such as anger in motivating both functional and dysfunctional behaviours in work and family settings and more recently, in the causes and consequences of rejection in family relationships. Professor Fitness supervises large numbers of Honours and Higher Degree Research students and was presented with MQ's Research Supervisor of the Year Award in 2001, and the Division of Linguistics & Psychology's Excellence in HDR Supervision Award in 2008. She served as Head of the Psychology Department from 2005-2007 and as Acting Dean of the Division of Linguistics & Psychology in 2008. She has also served as Deputy Director of the Children and Families Research Centre (2006-2009). She is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society, a Fellow of the US Association for Psychological Science, an Associate Editor of the journal Psychological Science, and a consulting editor for both the Journal of Personality & Social Psychology and Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.
Andrew Bissett

Andrew Bissett is the Head of Risk and Reporting for Qantas Airways and was appointed to this role in April 2008. Key responsibilities include maintenance and continuous improvement of the Qantas Group's risk management framework and developing the Qantas Group's corporate sustainability agenda. Prior to Andrew's current role he worked in audit and then in general line management.
Prior to joining Qantas in late 2003, Andrew worked for a variety of organisations including Andersen, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, BHP and Harvey Norman.
With over 15 years experience in consulting, strategy, project management, risk and internal audit, Andrew's key industry focus areas include transportation, retail and mining.
Andrew is a Chartered Accountant and Certified Information Systems Auditor.
Maxine Brodie

Maxine Brodie is the University Librarian at Macquarie University, a member of a number of University Committees and the University's senior officer for copyright and related issues. She moved to Macquarie in 2002 as Deputy University Librarian after working for five years as Director of Information Technology at the State Library of New South Wales. Prior to this Maxine spent 14 years as a senior manager in client, collection and management services at the University of Technology, Sydney, where she also played an active part in IT Strategic Planning for both the Library and the academic and administrative areas of the University.
Throughout her career she has been active in professional activities within the Australian Library and Information Association and was the Chair of the Standards Association of Australia Committee IT/19 from 2002-2005. She has published several articles and conference papers on planning, organisational renewal and service issues.
Professor Anne C.H. Burns

Professor Anne Burns is a graduate of the University of Wales, Cardiff, where she completed a BA Honours in English, the University of Technology, Sydney, and Macquarie University, where she undertook her PhD in applied linguistics. She is now a Chair Professor and the Director of the Applied Linguistics and Language in Education Research Centre in the Department of Linguistics, and an Adjunct Professor in the Macquarie Graduate School of Management. Her former appointments at Macquarie include Associate Director of the National Centre for English Language Teaching and Research (NCELTR) (1999-2003), Dean of the Division of Linguistics and Psychology (2000-2005), and Academic Director of the Centre for Policing, Intelligence and Counter Terrorism (PICT) (2005-2007).
An internationally recognised researcher and author in the fields of applied linguistics, discourse analysis, English as a second language and adult immigrant education, she is the author and editor of approximately 15 books and over 150 research articles and book chapters. She has been a visiting professor at Unitec, New Zealand, the University of Gotenburg, Sweden, and Chulalongkorn University Language Institute, Thailand. She serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of ten national and international journals and holds external appointments as Sector/Subject Specialist for the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, Member of the Standing Committee of Research of the International TESOL Organisation, and Member of the Executive Board of the International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA). She is currently in her third term as a member of University Council.
Associate Professor Pamela M Coutts

Associate Professor Coutts first studied Science (major in Mathematics) at the University of Sydney as preparation for a teaching career. After teaching for a number of years in secondary schools, she returned to study at Macquarie University where she completed both an Honours BA and a PhD in Developmental Psychology. She was appointed to the School of Education in 1990 and has served as Head of School (2000-2005), Director of the Teacher Education Program (2001–2008) and Associate Dean, Learning and Teaching for ACES (2005–May 2008). She is now Director of the BEd(TESOL) program, a joint initiative between the Malaysian Ministry of Education and Macquarie University, through the departments of Education and Linguistics.
Associate Professor Coutts works extensively with the broader educational community, especially in matters of accreditation and quality assurance. She is currently a member of the Initial Teacher Education Committee (ITEC) of the NSW Institute of Teachers and chairs the HSC Consultative Committee for the NSW Board of Studies. She is in her second term as a member of University Council.
Elizabeth Crouch

Elizabeth Crouch, BEc, GAICD, is a company director and consultant to government and the private sector. Ms Crouch spent 16 years with the Federal government before moving into the private sector, where she held various positions including the role of Chief Executive of the Housing Industry Association.
Ms Crouch now chairs a range of boards and government advisory bodies. She is the Chairperson of the Public Transport Ticketing Corporation, the Chair of the Ku-ring-gai Planning Committee and Deputy Chair of the City of Sydney Planning Committee. She also holds a number of positions with community and sporting bodies including Registrar of the Redfield Lions Football Club and the Redfield Cricket Club.

Professor Mitchell Dean

Professor Mitchell Dean replaces Professor Max Coltheart, member elected by the Academic Staff pursuant to Section 9(1)(d) of the Act, for the unexpired portion of Professor Coltheart's term.

Professor Mitchell Dean is Professor of Sociology at Macquarie University. He currently divides his time between researching in the Centre for Research on Social Inclusion, which he initiated in 2003, and working as Academic Director, Participation and Community Engagement. His research is on public governance and social analysis. He was previously Dean of the Division of Society, Culture, Media and Philosophy, 2002-8. He has held research fellowships at the Australian National University, the University of London and the Copenhagen Business School. He delivered a series of lectures on 'Governing Society Today' for the Finnish Academy in 2001, and the Annual Social Science Lecture, National University of Ireland, in 2009, on 'What is social thought?'.
Mitchell has broad interests in social inclusion, community engagement and Indigenous education and has represented the University on many forums on these issues. He was responsible for overhauling the University's scholarship system in 2008.
The Hon Patricia Forsythe

The Hon Patricia Forsythe is the Executive Director of the Sydney Chamber of Commerce, a position she has held since September 2006. Prior to that Patricia served for 15 years as a member of the NSW Legislative Council, including eight years as a Shadow Minister in a range of portfolios including three years as Shadow Minister for Education and Training.
Prior to entering Parliament, Patricia was Chief-of-Staff to the Minister for Local Government and Planning from 1988-1991. Her earlier career roles were as Manager of Government Relations for a national manufacturers' association and as a high school teacher in NSW state and independent schools.
Patricia is a member of the boards of the Step to the Future Foundation and Business Events Sydney, a member of the Finance Committee of the Anglican Board of Missions, and a member of the Co-ordinating Committee of the Brand Sydney project. Patricia holds a BA Dip Ed from the University of Newcastle.
Greg Jones

Mr Greg Jones is a graduate of Macquarie University, BA and MA and is currently Principal of Cromer Public School on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Mr Jones has an extensive background in education. In 2000 he coordinated the educational provision for special needs students as a component of the Government's "Building the Future", a restructuring and revitalising of inner city schooling. In 2002 Mr Jones was appointed by the Minister for Education to re-establish Hunters Hill High School and Erskineville Public School.
Mr Jones has been active in developing sustainable links between Macquarie University and the Peninsula Community of Schools in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM Project). The Project has already made significant gains in encouraging young people to study in the Science and Science-related areas. Mr Jones is married with two daughters, one of whom is studying a BA Dip Ed at Macquarie.
Gregory John Lindsay, AO

Greg Lindsay AO is the founder and Executive Director of the Centre for Independent Studies. While studying philosophy at Macquarie University in the mid-1970s (graduating in 1977), he became interested in the ideas underpinning a free and open society. A maths teacher by training, he taught for some years at Richmond High School, and while still a teacher founded the Centre in 1976. Since then, he has overseen the development of CIS into Australia's largest independent think tank covering the three major policy areas - economic, social and international.
He has been active in the international liberal movement and was President of the Mont Pelerin Society from 2006-2008, a position he relinquished at its General Meeting in Tokyo in September, and is now its Senior Vice-President. In 2003, Greg was made an Officer in the Order of Australia for his contributions to education and public debate. He is married with three children and is a member of the Advisory Council of the Sydney Youth Orchestra.
Warren Mundine

Warren Mundine is the Chief Executive Officer of NTSCORP Ltd., and an advocate for empowering Indigenous people to break the poverty cycle and building a strong Indigenous economy.
Warren is a Doctor of the University (honoris causa) (Southern Cross University) and a member of the Australian Institute of Management, the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Chairman of the Australian Indigenous Chamber of Commerce, the Chair of NSW Labor's Indigenous Policy Committee, Executive Member of the National Native Title Council, a Director of the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation, a member of Southern Cross University Foundation, Board member of NAISDA Limited and Ambassador for the Song Room. Warren has been appointed by the Prime Minister to the Australian Government's National Policy Commission – Indigenous Housing Committee.
Recently as a steering committee member of the new initiative, The Australian Employment Covenant, he has been involved in the development of its strategy to facilitate the engagement of corporate Australia in working towards breaking the welfare cycle of Aboriginal people. This new initiative aims at using targeted training and workplace mentoring to achieve full time employment for at least 50,000 Aboriginal people.
Previous roles held by Warren include the National President of the Australian Labor Party, Chair of NSW Country Labor and member of the NSW Attorney General's Juvenile Crime Prevention Committee, NSW PCYC State Board and IAG's Expert Community Advisors Committee. Warren has also had considerable involvement in local government through a number of roles including Deputy Mayor of Dubbo, President of the NSW Local Government Aboriginal Network, Executive member of the Local Government Association of NSW and as a commissioner with the NSW Local Government Grants Commission.
The Hon Sandra Nori

Ms Nori was appointed to the Council on March 2008 and currently serves on its Finance Committee. Ms Nori is a 19-year veteran of the NSW Parliament (1988-2007), and Minister from 1999-2007. She was the State's longest serving Minister for Tourism. Her other portfolios included Small Business, Women, Sport and Recreation, Minister for Major Events and Venues and Minister Assisting the Minister for State Development. Ms Nori is currently working as a consultant. She is also on the boards of the NSW TAFE Commission and Domain Resorts and Residences; a member of the fundraising committee of the Wayside Chapel; and an honorary member of the Duke of Edinburgh Forum Committee 2009.
Steven Rubic

Steven Rubic was appointed Chief Executive Officer of St Vincents & Mater Health Sydney (SV&MHS) in March 2008. Prior to this he was Executive Director of St Vincent’s Private Hospital a position he held since 1997. He has a strong background in general administration and leadership experience in large, innovative organisations and has spent over 15 years working with the St Vincent’s Health group.
He is currently a Board Member of SV&MHS Limited, the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, the Health Industry (Superannuation) Plan, the Garvan Research Foundation, a member of the Department of Health & Ageing Second Tier Default Health Insurance Committee, a member of Australian Commission on Safety and Quality Health Care (Private Hospital Sector Committee) and is a past Chairman of the NSW Private Hospitals Association. He has worked extensively with Boards, industry bodies and has completed an MBA as well as the Sydney Leadership Course.
Amy Smith

Amy was elected as the Student member of the University Council in 2008. She is in the second year of a BA majoring in Australian History and Politics. She is also a Director of the U@MQ Board and a member of the interim Macquarie University Student Representative Working Group (MUSRWG). MUSRWG is in the process of establishing the new undergraduate student representative body.
