The Hon Michael Rueben Egan

The Hon. Michael Egan has been Chancellor of Macquarie University since February 2008. He was Treasurer of New South Wales for a record term from 1995 to 2005. He was also Minister for State Development, Minister for Energy and Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council. He is currently Chairman of the Centenary Institute of Cancer Medicine and Cell Biology, Chairman of the Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group Pty Ltd and Chairman of the Australian Fisheries Management Authority Commission.
Elizabeth Crouch

Elizabeth Crouch, BEc, FAICD, is a company director and consultant to government and the private sector. Ms Crouch spent 16 years with the Federal government before moving into the private sector, where she held various positions including the role of Chief Executive of the Housing Industry Association.
Ms Crouch is a non-executive Director of the Chandler Macleod Group, Chairperson of Health Infrastructure and transport audit committees and Chairperson of the Fair Trading Advisory Council. She is the former Chair of Railcorp, the Public Transport Ticketing Corporation and Deputy Chair of the City of Sydney Planning Committee. She also holds a number of positions with community and sporting bodies including as Registrar of the Redfield Lions Football Club.
Professor Steven Schwartz

Professor Steven Schwartz is the Vice-Chancellor of Macquarie University. He has also served as Vice-Chancellor of Brunel University in London, England and Vice-Chancellor of Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia.
Professor Julie Fitness

Professor Julie Fitness is a social-evolutionary psychologist with research interests in the features and functions of emotions in both personal relationship and organizational contexts. She joined the Psychology Department at Macquarie in 1991 with a PhD from Canterbury University, New Zealand. Since then she has published three co-edited books and over 60 scholarly papers and book chapters on emotion and relationship-related topics, including love, hate, betrayal, revenge, and forgiveness. She is particularly interested in the role of emotions such as anger in motivating both functional and dysfunctional behaviours in work and family settings and more recently, in the causes and consequences of rejection in family relationships.
Professor Fitness supervises large numbers of Honours and Higher Degree Research students and was presented with MQ's Research Supervisor of the Year Award in 2001, and the Division of Linguistics & Psychology's Excellence in HDR Supervision Award in 2008. She served as Head of the Psychology Department from 2005-2007 and as Acting Dean of the Division of Linguistics & Psychology in 2008. She has also served as Deputy Director of the Children and Families Research Centre (2006-2009). She is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society, a Fellow of the US Association for Psychological Science, an Associate Editor of the journal Psychological Science, and a consulting editor for both the Journal of Personality & Social Psychology and Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.
Andrew Bissett

Current term to 30 June 2015.
Andrew has over 17 years experience in consulting, strategy, project management, risk and audit. Andrew currently leads the Group Risk and Policy team for Woolworths Limited. Prior to that, Andrew held senior roles with Tabcorp Holdings and Qantas Airways. Andrew's key industry focus areas include transportation, retail and mining. Andrew is a Chartered Accountant, Certified Information Systems Auditor and a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Andrew is also a member of the Audit and Risk Committee and is a non-executive director to the Macquarie University Hospital.
Wylie Bradford

Maxine Brodie

Maxine Brodie is the University Librarian at Macquarie University, a member of a number of University Committees and the University's senior officer for copyright and related issues. She moved to Macquarie in 2002 as Deputy University Librarian after working for five years as Director of Information Technology at the State Library of New South Wales. Prior to this Maxine spent 14 years as a senior manager in client, collection and management services at the University of Technology, Sydney, where she also played an active part in IT Strategic Planning for both the Library and the academic and administrative areas of the University.
Throughout her career she has been active in professional activities within the Australian Library and Information Association and was the Chair of the Standards Association of Australia Committee IT/19 from 2002-2005.
Linda Cupples
BSc (Hons); PhD
Appointed to the University Council under section 9(1)(d) of the Macquarie University Act 1989 for term commencing 1 January 2011 and concluding on 31 December 2013.
Professor Linda Cupples is currently Head of the Department of Linguistics, a role that she has occupied since 2006. Linda joined Linguistics in 1991, having earlier completed a PhD (in Psycholinguistics) at the University of Melbourne. Whilst at Macquarie, she has acted as convenor of the Master of Communication Disorders (1991-present), and Director of the (former) Speech Hearing and Language Research Centre (2003-2007). She is a current member of the Macquarie University Research Centre for Language Sciences (CLaS), the Macquarie University International Scholarship Committee, the Human Sciences Faculty Board, and the Human Sciences Research Sub-committee.
Linda is a psycholinguist with research interests in typical and disordered adult language processing, and the development and teaching of reading particularly in children with intellectual disabilities. She is a registered Psychologist, and a member of the Australian Psychological Society, the Psychonomic Society, and the International Neuropsychological Society. She is on the Editorial Review Board for the journal Reading Research Quarterly.
Chum Darvall

Graduate Member appointed by Council pursuant to Section 9(1)(g) of the Act.
Current term from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2012.
Chum was Chief Executive Officer Deutsche Bank Australia and New Zealand from July 2002 to March 2011. He remains a non-executive Vice Chairman of Deutsche Bank.
He joined the bank in September 1994 as Director Treasury managing the money market, swaps and foreign exchange units and group funding. In early 1998, he became Head of Global Markets responsible for all financial market-related activities. Chum was also part of the management group responsible for the integration of the New Zealand operation of Bankers Trust with Deutsche Bank in 1999.
Prior to his first appointment at Deutsche Bank, Chum worked in the financial markets divisions of Westpac (1985-1994) and BA Australia Ltd (1981-1985), a subsidiary of Bank of America.
Board memberships include Wilson HTM, Centre for Independent Studies, the Financial Markets Foundation for Children, Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (VCCRI) and Australia Council Major Performing Arts Board.
Chum is married to Belinda and they have four children.
The Hon Patricia Forsythe

The Hon Patricia Forsythe is the Executive Director of the Sydney
Chamber of Commerce, a position she has held since September 2006.
Prior to that Patricia served for 15 years as a member of the NSW
Legislative Council, including eight years as a Shadow Minister in a
range of portfolios including three years as Shadow Minister for
Education and Training.
Patricia is a member of the boards of Destination NSW, the Sydney Children's Hospital Network, Hunter Development Corporation, Business Events Sydney and Cricket NSW. Patricia holds a BA Dip Ed from the University of Newcastle.
Greg Jones

Member appointed by the Minister for Education & Training pursuant to Section 9(1)(b) of the Act.
Current term to 31 December 2012.
Mr Greg Jones is a graduate of Macquarie University, BA and MA and is currently Principal of Cromer Public School on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Mr Jones is currently Chair of the University Discipline Committee.
Mr Jones has an extensive background in education. In 2000 he coordinated the educational provision for special needs students as a component of the Government's "Building the Future", a restructuring and revitalising of inner city schooling. In 2002 Mr Jones was appointed by the Minister for Education to re-establish Hunters Hill High School and Erskineville Public School.
Mr Jones has been active in developing sustainable links between Macquarie University and the Peninsula Community of Schools in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM Project). The Project has already made significant gains in encouraging young people to study in the Science and Science-related areas. Mr Jones also has an interest in school Governance and is working with the Department of Education and Training on developing effective models of School Governance for use in Public Schools.
Mr Jones is married with two daughters, one of who completed a BA Dip Ed at Macquarie.
Prof Deborah Kane

Appointed to the University Council under section 9(1)(d) of the Macquarie University Act 1989 for term commencing 1 January 2011 and concluding on 31 December 2013.
Professor Deb Kane first studied physics at the University of Otago, New Zealand and then completed her PhD at St Andrews University, Scotland, as a Commonwealth Scholarship holder. She was a research fellow in physics at Southampton University, UK (1984-April 1986) and then took up her first lectureship in physics at Massey University NZ (April 1986-May 1989).
She joined Macquarie University as a lecturer in physics in 1989 and has been a senior lecturer (1992-1998), Associate Professor (1999-2004) and now a personal chair in Physics (since 2005). She is a past Head of the Department of Physics (May 2003-June 2006) and has served on Promotions Committees, the Research Committee, the Science and Technology Advisory Committee and the Equal Opportunity Committee of the University. She was a member of the Management Committee of the ARC Nanotechnology Network (2004-2010).
She has taught university physics – undergraduate, honours and postgraduate for more than 25 years. Her research interests are in photonics, optics and materials. She has authored/co-authored more than 80 refereed papers, edited/co-edited three books, and has about 200 publications in total. She is a strong contributor to outreach programs.
Gregory John Lindsay, AO

Greg Lindsay AO is the founder and Executive Director of the Centre for Independent Studies. While studying philosophy at Macquarie University in the mid-1970s (graduating in 1977), he became interested in the ideas underpinning a free and open society. A maths teacher by training, he taught for some years at Richmond High School, and while still a teacher founded the Centre in 1976. Since then, he has overseen the development of CIS into Australia's largest independent think tank covering the three major policy areas - economic, social and international.
He has been active in the international liberal movement and was President of the Mont Pelerin Society from 2006-2008. In 2003, Greg was made an Officer in the Order of Australia for his contributions to education and public debate. He is married with three children.
Edwin Nelson
Student Member appointed by Council pursuant to Section 9(1)(f)(i) of the Act. Current term to 21 May 2012.
Edwin Nelson is currently a student at Macquarie University and is in his 5th year of a combined Arts and Law degree. He has previously served as a member of the Academic Senate in 2010 and has also been a member of the Macquarie University Student Representative Association.
During his time at university he has been involved in many aspects of university campus life. He was a participant in the World University Debating Championships 2010, the Australasian Debating Championships 2009, and Australian Debating Championships 2007-2011. He is currently president of the Macquarie University Chess Club, member of the Catholic Students Association, frequent participant in the Drama and Musical Societies at Macquarie and is representing the Law Society at the Australian Law Students Association Competition.
In his spare time he enjoys reading, playing basketball and having fun.
The Hon Sandra Nori
BEc Syd.
Member appointed by the Minister for Education & Training pursuant to Section 9(1)(b) of the Act.
Current term to 31 December 2012.
Ms Nori was appointed to the Council on March 2008 and currently serves on its Finance Committee. Ms Nori is a 19-year veteran of the NSW Parliament (1988-2007), and Minister from 1999-2007. She was the State's longest serving Minister for Tourism. Her other portfolios included Small Business, Women, Sport and Recreation, Minister for Major Events and Venues and Minister Assisting the Minister for State Development. Ms Nori is currently working as a consultant. She is also on the boards of the NSW TAFE Commission and Domain Resorts and Residences; a member of the fundraising committee of the Wayside Chapel; and an honorary member of the Duke of Edinburgh Forum Committee 2009.
Steven Rubic

Current term from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2012.
Steven Rubic was appointed Chief Executive Officer of St Vincents & Mater Health Sydney (SV&MHS) in March 2008. Prior to this he was Executive Director of St Vincents Private Hospital a position he held since 1997. He has a strong background in general administration and leadership experience in large, innovative organisations and has spent over 15 years working with the St Vincents Health group.
He is currently a Board Member of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, the Health Industry (Superannuation) Plan, a member of the Department of Health & Ageing Second Tier Default Health Insurance Committee, a member of Australian Commission on Safety and Quality Health Care (Private Hospital Sector Committee) and is a past Chairman of the NSW Private Hospitals Association.
Kerry Schott
Member appointed by the Minister for Education & Training pursuant to Section 9(1)(b) of the Act.
Current term to 31 December 2013.
Kerry Schott is currently the CEO for the NSW Government's Commission of Audit. Kerry was CEO and Managing Director of Sydney Water from 2006 to 2011.She was previously a Deputy Secretary, NSW Treasury. Kerry is a member of the Infrastructure Australia Board and a Director of NSW TCorp.
Kerry spent 15 years as an investment banker, including as Managing Director of Deutsche Bank and Executive Vice President of Bankers Trust Australia. During this time she specialised in privatisation, restructuring, and infrastructure provision.
Kerry holds a doctorate from Oxford University (Nuffield College), a Masters of Arts from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver and a Bachelor of Arts (first class Honours) from the University of New England.
Greg Ward

Appointed to the University Council under section 9(1)(c) of the Macquarie University Act 1989 for a term commencing on 1 January 2011 and concluding on 31 December 2013.
Greg Ward is the Chief Financial Officer and Head of the Corporate Affairs Group for Macquarie Group Limited. He is also a member of the Executive Committee for both Macquarie Group Limited and Macquarie Bank Limited.
Greg joined Macquarie on listing in 1996 and was appointed CFO in 1997. Greg has over 20 years of experience in finance and financial services, and prior to joining Macquarie, Greg had senior roles with Westpac Banking Corporation and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Greg is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and holds a Master of Economics and is an Associate of FINSIA. From September 1999 until February 2003 Greg served as a Board member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board.
Greg was an inaugural member of the Federal Treasury’s Financial Reporting Panel.
Greg is also a Board member of the Macquarie Group Foundation which facilitates the Group’s charitable undertakings and a Board member of UNICEF Australia.
John Wigglesworth

Member appointed by the Minster for Education & Training pursuant to Section 9(1)(b) of the Act. Current term to 31 December 2013.
John is a Chartered Accountant and has been a partner at KPMG since 1997. During this career with KPMG, John has worked with many leading Australian and international companies and has extensive experience is financial reporting, accounting, audit and risk management, both in Australia and Asia. John is the Chairman of the Audit & Risk Committee.
