Chair of Academic Senate
*Member appointed pursuant to Section 9(1)(a)(iii) of the Act. Ex officio member*

I am a mathematician and computer scientist affiliated to the Centre of Australian Category Theory (CoACT), an interdisciplinary University research centre recognized internationally as a leader in its field.
In recognition of my leadership in learning and teaching I have been awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence (2008) and an ALTC Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning (2011).
My experience as an academic administrator includes 5 years as a member of the Division of ICS executive (2002-2006). I have served on the University’s Academic Program Committee (now ASQC), as its Postgraduate Coursework specialist (2003-07), and have served twice as an elected member of Academic Senate (2006-08 and 2011-12).
At the beginning of 2011 I was appointed to the Chair of the Senate Learning and Teaching Committee. In this capacity, I lead the committee tasked with managing and monitoring the governance and policy processes that support all of the University’s learning and teaching activities.

Academic Senate is currently engaged in a vitally important process of renewal and reinvigoration. It is challenged to capitalize upon the opportunities presented by a new Vice Chancellor, to meet the demands of a new regulatory body (TEQSA) and to navigate the uncertainties of a rapidly evolving tertiary sector. I believe that my ten years of successful experience in University governance puts me in a unique position to make a highly effective contribution to meeting these objectives. I seek endorsement to continue this leadership role in the academic governance processes of the University.
