The University Council

The Macquarie University Act 1989 (as amended) provides for 19 members of the University Council.  As constituted under Section 9 of the Act, three members are elected by the academic staff of the University, one by the general staff of the University and one by students proceeding to a degree or diploma at the University.

The Minister for Education appoints six members and Council itself may appoint one additional member.  Four members are alumni of the University, who are not current students or staff and who are appointed by Council.

The Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor and the Vice-President of Academic Senate are members of the Council ex officio.
